Breathedge 2 Spraytron Guide: How to Unlock It (Central Depot), the Recipe, and What It's For

This page covers how to unlock the Spraytron (power up the Central Depot), the exact recipe and where every material comes from, what it actually does (spray Alkaline Solution to force worms out of boils and clear parasites), where the ammo comes from, and when it's worth crafting. The Spraytron is Breathedge 2's utility tool: it sprays Alkaline Solution for dealing with worms, boils, and parasite-type interactions. It's not a weapon and it's not a main-quest requirement — it's the tool you reach for on specific scavenging jobs, unlocked partway through the main story. This page tells you exactly how to get it and when you'll actually want it.

Utility, not combat

What the Spraytron Is

The Spraytron is one of the game's tool set — alongside the Scrap tool, Cutters, Thumper, Twister, and Flashlight. It's an early-to-mid utility tool rather than a combat or core-progression tool, and its whole job is spraying Alkaline Solution to interact with organic hazards: covering boils to force worms out, and clearing parasite-type problems. Two things to set expectations early:

  • It's not a weapon.

It sprays fluid; it doesn't deal damage to robots. If you're expecting a gun, this isn't it.

  • It's not a main-story requirement.

The core tool ladder (Scrap → Thumper → Cutter) drives the main quest and most side quests; the Spraytron is situational on top of that.

Main-quest gated

How to Unlock the Spraytron

The Spraytron unlocks through the main quest:

Power up the Central Depot.

Once you've restored power to the Central Depot during the main storyline, the Spraytron's crafting recipe becomes available. There's no separate find-and-inspect unlock like the Twister — it's gated behind main-quest progress at the Depot stage, which is later than the Scrap tool, Thumper, and Cutters.

Because it unlocks later and isn't needed by the main quest, you can safely treat it as "craft when you get around to it" — the earlier tools come first.

Four materials

The Recipe & Where the Materials Come From

The Spraytron costs:

Crafting cost

  • Titanium×4
  • Refined Metal×4
  • Battery Cell×2
  • Glass×2

All four are craft-and-go if you know where to look. A practical note: the early bottleneck materials (Plastic, Metal) go to Scrap, Thumper, and Cutters first. The Spraytron's list is mostly a different route — Titanium and Glass — so it doesn't compete much with the core ladder, but you still won't have the recipe until the Depot is powered.

  • Glass

the rarer one. Small floating glass balls sit near broken train wagons and corridors outside the starting area. Look for intact glass orbs rather than smashing everything; intact glass is what the recipe needs.

  • Titanium

around Chuck's Taxi (roughly AN 20 on the map). Look for rocks with long, sharp spikes sticking out of them.

  • Battery Cell

destroy the floating radio in the AW 23 area, or find them as random loot.

  • Refined Metal

destroy the curved orange pipe with a silver cap, found to the west around AW 23; also occasional loose loot.

Alkaline Solution

What It Does & Where the Ammo Comes From

The Spraytron's one trick, and where you keep it fed. Spray Alkaline Solution to force worms out of boils. On the relevant scavenging spots, you aim the Spraytron at boils and cover them with Alkaline — the worms crawl out, and you can then deal with them (the same worm-and-boil interaction runs through the parasite side of the game). It's also the tool for clearing parasite-type interactions generally, not just the worms. Ammo = Alkaline Solution. You can't run the Spraytron on nothing — it needs Alkaline Solution:

  1. Getting the first supply

head into the hollow asteroids underneath the Tickets building. You'll find mole nests there — stick the Spraytron's hose into the hole, then either beat the moles with your Scrap tool or drag them out with your grappler. That's where the alkaline comes from.

  2. Refilling later

a refillable supply sits in the tanks of the shuttle station at the end of Chapter 1.

This ties the Spraytron to two things on this site: the moles-and-alkaline material chain (with the mole-related achievement) and the larva-type enemies on the big creature at the shuttle station — the Spraytron is the tool you want for those encounters.

No rush, no skip

When to Craft It

There's no reason to rush, and no reason to skip it:

  1. Don't craft it before the core ladder.

Scrap, Thumper, and Cutters are main-quest and side-quest requirements. Those first.

  2. Craft it once the Depot is powered

and you have the materials — Titanium and Glass are the ones to keep an eye out for.

  3. There are no upgrade modules for it.

In the current build, the Twister and the Spraytron don't have documented upgrade modules (unlike the Cutters or Thumper, which take damage upgrades). So what you craft is what you get — no need to save materials for a Spraytron upgrade.

You'll know it's time when you hit a boil-and-worm job or a parasite encounter and the game expects you to spray first, fight second.

Three traps

Common Mistakes

  1. Expecting a weapon.

It sprays alkaline, not bullets. It's a utility tool for worms, boils, and parasites.

  2. Rushing it ahead of the core tools.

Scrap, Thumper, and Cutters come first — the main story needs them, the Spraytron doesn't.

  3. Not knowing where the ammo is.

Alkaline Solution comes from the mole nests in the hollow asteroids under the Tickets building, with a refillable tank at the end of Chapter 1.

FAQ

How do I unlock the Spraytron?
Power up the Central Depot in the main quest — the recipe unlocks from there.
What does the Spraytron cost?
Titanium ×4, Refined Metal ×4, Battery Cell ×2, Glass ×2.
What is it for?
Spraying Alkaline Solution to force worms out of boils and clear parasite-type interactions.
Where do I get the ammo?
Mole nests under the Tickets building for the first supply; a refillable tank at the shuttle station at the end of Chapter 1.
Is it worth crafting?
Yes, when you need it — it's cheap to craft once the Depot is powered, and it's the tool for the worm/parasite jobs. Just don't prioritize it over the core tool ladder.
Can I upgrade it?
No — the Spraytron (like the Twister) has no documented upgrade modules in the current build.
