The game

What Is Breathedge 2?

An ironic, retro-futuristic space survival game — and the direct sequel to Breathedge.

You play as the Man — an ordinary guy in a broken spacesuit with a sarcastic AI, a chicken, and an absurd amount of duct tape — surviving in a galaxy where an evil corporation's robot army has taken over.

The Story

The World

Breathedge 2 is story-driven, so here's the world you're dropped into and the situation at the start.

01Home is gone

Humanity lives in the farthest, most remote settlements of inhabited space — a strip of populated planets and stations on the edge of everything. Then the Breathedge Corporation launched a galaxy-wide war: its army of Coffinbots stormed the largest human settlements, and the people living out there aren't in charge of their own galaxy anymore.

02You're the target

The Man and his AI accidentally derail the corporation's conquest plan — and immediately become the number-one target of every hostile robot in the galaxy. As if being hunted by an army weren't enough, the survivors then get attacked by their own side.

03Where you endure it

The story begins in the city of Outskirts — a planetary city with its own anthem and its own set of problems — and the game opens in the wreckage of a crashed train. From there you're out among debris fields, derelict stations, and floating junk of a broken space settlement. So the opening isn't just "survive the wreckage" — it's "survive the wreckage while everyone, friendly and not, seems to be shooting at you."

The Crew

You're not a soldier, a scientist, or a chosen one — you're a guy with very ordinary space problems and a talent for turning garbage into tools.

  • The Man

handy, resourceful, and in way over his head.

  • The AI

a sarcastic, chatty intelligence living in your spacesuit. It's your running commentary, your guide, and your backup talker, and it does not stop talking.

  • The chicken

an apparently immortal chicken you're carrying around. It's the series' mascot, a running joke, and the very first thing the game asks you to feed.

  • Sui

a companion who comes along automatically from the opening, out of the train.

The one the quest hangs on

Who is Babe?

Babe — the character who drives the main quest of Chapter 1. "Who is Babe?" is one of the story's central questions.

If you played the first game

The original Breathedge had the Man carrying his grandfather's ashes on a doomed ship — same AI, same chicken. Think of this as Breathedge 1.5: it keeps the formula (Man + AI + chicken), the comedy, and the survival core, but tightens the structure — the map is denser, and survival and crafting lean heavier. You don't need to have played the first game to follow along; the quest-by-quest path through Chapter 1 is on the quests page.

How the game plays

The Core Loop

Every moment of Breathedge 2 runs on one loop:

  1. 01

    Head out

into the wreckage and scavenge what's floating around — materials, food, water ingredients, tools.

  2. 02

    Stay alive

manage your oxygen, cold, hunger, thirst, and rest while you're away from base.

  3. 03

    Craft and upgrade

bring it all back to the workbench and turn materials into tools and gear.

  4. 04

    Unlock

use the new tools and upgrades to open areas you couldn't reach before.

  5. 05

    Repeat

each new area holds better materials, which build better tools, which reach farther.

That's the whole game in five steps. The getting-started page walks through how this plays out in your first hour, and the survival stats page explains the meters in detail.

Before you start

What Kind of Game It Is

The shape of the game, before you start:

  • Survival and exploration first, combat a distant third.

Fighting is deliberately shallow; enemies are obstacles rather than content.

  • Single-player and slower-paced.

There's no co-op, and the rhythm is "short expeditions, come home, build, go again" rather than constant action.

  • Comedy-forward.

The humor is irreverent, gag-heavy, and occasionally crude — a sarcastic AI and bathroom jokes are the norm. It's a style that splits players: either it lands for you or you'll want it muted.

  • Visually retro-futuristic.

Faded mid-century space design rather than sleek sci-fi.

  • Gathering is manual.

Loot isn't walked over — you pull machine parts off, cut cables, chip ice, and pump resources, each with its own interaction. It's the heart of the loop.

  • Achievements are upgrades.

All 39 achievements grant a permanent stat bonus, so hunting achievements also raises your stats.

  • One dense map.

The launch chapter is a single packed area rather than an open world.
